Cohere, a rising name in AI valued at $5.5 billion as of July, is working with Palantir to deploy its advanced AI models. Unlike OpenAI or Anthropic, Cohere focuses on enterprise solutions rather than viral consumer tools.

It was co-founded by one of the authors of the groundbreaking ‘Attention is All You Need’ paper, which kickstarted the large language model revolution.

Palantir recently announced a partnership with Anthropic for AI-powered defense projects. However, information shared in a video from Palantir’s DevCon1 conference in November 2024 revealed that Cohere’s models are already being used by Palantir customers.

The video features Billy Trend, a Cohere engineer and former Palantir employee, discussing how Cohere’s AI is helping clients with strict data storage requirements and specific language needs, including Arabic.

Cohere’s models are available through Palantir’s Foundry platform, which is designed for corporate clients.

This suggests the partnership targets large enterprises rather than purely defense-focused use cases, even though Palantir is well-known for its work with US military and intelligence agencies.

Cohere has been open about collaborations with companies like Fujitsu but hasn’t publicly acknowledged its ties with Palantir.

When asked about military or intelligence-related projects, Cohere declined to comment, as did Palantir. However, OpenAI recently confirmed its own defense-focused deal with Anduril, signaling a growing trend in AI adoption across sensitive industries.

Palantir remains vocal about its dual focus, working with commercial giants like Airbus while advocating for modernizing the US defense-tech sector. Cohere’s involvement in these projects highlights how enterprise AI is expanding into high-stakes domains.
