Classic Dune Game Music Comes to ‘Dune: Awakening’ via In-Game Radio
Fans of classic video games and sci-fi will be excited to hear that music from Dune (1992) and Dune II: Battle for Arrakis (1992) is coming to Dune: Awakening. The music will be available through the in-game radio, allowing players to enjoy these iconic soundtracks while exploring the world of Arrakis.
Dune: Awakening is a survival MMO set in the universe of Dune, inspired by Frank Herbert’s novel and Legendary Entertainment’s films. The game brings players into the harsh desert world of Arrakis, where they must survive, build, and fight for control of spice.
The music from Dune II: Battle for Arrakis was composed by Frank Klepacki. The soundtrack for Dune (1992), known as Dune: Spice Opera, was created by Philippe Ulrich and Stéphane Picq. In 2024, this soundtrack was remastered, bringing new life to its classic sound. Sadly, Stéphane Picq passed away in February 2025. His work, however, continues to inspire fans and will now reach new audiences through Dune: Awakening.
Joel Bylos, Chief Creative Officer of Dune: Awakening, expressed his excitement about this addition to the game.
“Dune has a legacy in books and films – but also in video games.” he said. “The soundtracks of Dune and Dune II were some of the greatest of the 90s, and it is a great honor to be able to share them with a new generation of players through the Communinet in Dune: Awakening.”
The Communinet is Dune: Awakening’s in-game centralized communications network. It offers three unique radio channels for players to enjoy while they explore the world, gather resources, or engage in combat. These channels include:
- Atreides and Harkonnen Channels – These channels feature propaganda, motivational speeches, and arena fight coverage from the noble houses.
- Harvester Radio – This station is for the spice miners and common workers of Arrakis. It includes music, advertisements, survival tips, and even episodes of exclusive radio theatre.
The radio will also provide updates on important in-game events. Players can listen to warnings about emergencies, sandstorms, and political events from the powerful Landsraad.
For many fans of Dune, this addition is an exciting way to reconnect with the music of classic games. It also introduces a new generation of players to the soundtracks that helped define the early Dune gaming experience.
