Bluesky Starting To Test a New “Trending Topics” Feature
Bluesky announced that it has launched a beta version of its trending topics feature. This new addition is available on both desktop and mobile apps.
On desktop, trending topics appear on the right-hand sidebar. Mobile users can find the feature by tapping the search button. For now, the feature supports only the English language.
If you prefer not to see trending topics, you can turn them off in the app’s settings. Go to Settings, then Content and Media, and uncheck the “Enable trending topics” option. Additionally, any words or phrases you’ve muted will also be excluded from the trending topics list.
Bluesky, which now has a user base exceeding 25 million, described this release as the first version of the feature, with plans for future improvements.
Interestingly, while Bluesky is just rolling out this functionality, some third-party clients like Greysky introduced similar features last year.
Meanwhile, Bluesky’s competitor Threads has been expanding its trending topics feature. Threads launched it for U.S. users in March and began testing it in Japan by October. Unlike Threads, Bluesky’s trending topics are accessible to users globally.
