Obsidian Entertainment is gearing up to release its latest first-person roleplaying game, Avowed, on February 18. This game marks a return to their RPG roots after exploring different genres with titles like Grounded and Pentiment.

In Avowed, players can expect a rich experience filled with unique character builds, impactful choices, and multiple endings. For instance, you might play as a virtuous mage wielding dual wands in one playthrough. After completing the game, you could start anew as a character who betrays the empire and sides with the antagonist. The game offers such diverse paths.

However, it’s important to note that Avowed will not feature a New Game Plus mode at launch. Game director Carrie Patel mentioned in an interview with MinnMax that after finishing the RPG, players can simply start a “new game” if they wish to experience the story again. This approach is similar to Obsidian’s previous RPG, The Outer Worlds, which also launched without a New Game Plus feature.

On the topic of additional content, when asked about potential DLCs for Avowed, Patel responded with a “maybe.” This leaves the door open for future expansions. Considering that Pillars of Eternity 2 had three expansions and The Outer Worlds received two notable DLC packs—one of which was directed by Patel—it’s clear that Obsidian is open to expanding their big adventures post-launch.

For now, Avowed is set to release on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and will be available on Game Pass later this month. If you’re interested in learning more about the game, you can check out the Big in 2025 Avowed preview to see why it’s considered both the culmination and evolution of Obsidian’s previous works.

As we look forward to Avowed’s release, it’s also worth noting other exciting titles coming out in 2025 and beyond. The gaming landscape is rich with upcoming adventures that promise to captivate players across various platforms.
