Amazon Cuts Jobs in Fashion & Fitness Group, Internal Messages Reveal
Amazon has decided to downsize its workforce within the Fashion and Fitness division, commonly referred to as F2.
This move has seen several employees in San Diego and other locations across the country being laid off.
An Amazon spokesperson highlighted that these changes aim to streamline operations and enhance the company’s ability to innovate and meet customer needs.
“We’ve adjusted parts of our North America Stores team because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities,” said the spokesperson.
“We’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles, and we’re committed to supporting affected employees through their transition.”
These layoffs, affecting about 200 employees, do not appear to be related to Amazon’s decision to discontinue ‘Try Before You Buy’, a service previously known as Prime Wardrobe that allowed customers to try on clothes before purchasing them.
Amazon has repeatedly attempted to penetrate the fashion sector, a notoriously tough market for e-commerce due to customer preferences for trying on apparel before buying.
The challenges of handling returns and exchanges, which can be costly and impact profit margins, have prompted Amazon to reassess its approach in this area.
