Adobe has stepped up its game in the AI video generation arena with the launch of its new tool, Generate Video, now accessible to all in a public beta.
This move follows a series of innovations under its generative AI project Firefly, initially introduced to a select group last year.
Generate Video offers the public a glimpse of its capabilities through the reimagined Firefly web app, which now includes not only video but enhanced image generation and translation tools, backed by a fresh subscription model for creative assets.
Starting today, users can experiment with creating five-second video clips at a crisp 1080p resolution. Generate Video distinguishes itself with two unique functions: Text-to-Video and Image-to-Video.
These features allow users to craft videos from text descriptions or by using a reference image to guide the creation process.
The output is polished at 1080p and 24 frames per second, although currently, the clips are limited to five seconds—a shorter span compared to the 20-second clips offered by OpenAI’s Sora.
Adobe’s Firefly model was first integrated into its software suite in October, beginning with the Generative Extend tool for Premiere Pro.
Today’s rollout includes not just technical enhancements but also integrates seamlessly with other Creative Cloud applications such as Photoshop and Premiere Pro, making it simpler for users to manage and edit AI-generated content.
Adobe emphasizes that since Firefly is trained on public domain and licensed content, its use is secure for commercial purposes, branding Generate Video as ‘production-ready.’
While Adobe leads with the commercial safety of its tool, competition is fierce with Google, ByteDance, and Pika Labs also enhancing their offerings in the AI video space.
Google’s second-generation Veo AI video model and new tools from ByteDance and Pika Labs showcase the rapidly evolving market Adobe is contending with.
The updates to the Firefly web app are significant too. Users will notice a revamped user interface and two new tools also launched in beta—Scene to Image and Translate Audio and Video.
Scene to Image allows for custom reference creation for AI images, tapping into 3D modeling and sketching capabilities. Meanwhile, Translate Audio and Video offers multilingual translation and dubbing while preserving the original voice’s nuances.
To accommodate various user needs, Adobe has introduced two subscription plans: Firefly Standard and Firefly Pro.
Priced at $9.99 and $29.99 respectively, these plans offer a set number of video and audio credits, with Firefly Pro delivering more robust usage options including unlimited access to imaging and vector features.
As Adobe navigates the competitive landscape, it’s clear that the company is not only enhancing its products but also tailoring them to fit the evolving needs of creators in a digital age where AI-generated content is becoming increasingly mainstream.
