A New ‘Star Fox’ Game Is Rumored for the Launch of the Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo has been secretive about the Nintendo Switch 2, but there are already a few confirmed games in the works. So far, the only official announcement is a new Mario Kart, and there are a total of eight games currently planned.
More titles will be revealed before the console launches, possibly including The Legend of Zelda, Mario, Animal Crossing, and Fire Emblem. However, a fresh rumor suggests that an old favorite—one that hasn’t been seen in nearly a decade—could make a comeback as part of the launch lineup.
This particular series first appeared in 1993 and had a steady run with new games in 1997, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2011, and 2016. It was once a major part of Nintendo’s lineup but hasn’t been touched since its last release flopped. That failure might explain why the series disappeared, but if this latest leak is true, it won’t be gone much longer.
According to the source, one with a mixed track record (we’re stressing this out), Star Fox is finally getting another shot. This time, Nintendo itself is leading development, marking the first internally developed Star Fox game since Star Fox 64. Unlike what many expected, this won’t be a full reboot but a continuation of a previous game. The biggest change? Online multiplayer is said to be a major focus.
This rumor originally surfaced at the start of 2024, when Switch 2 was still expected to arrive by the end of the year. Back then, it was said that this new Star Fox game would launch within 12 months. Since the console has now been delayed to 2025, the game is likely finished or close to it. That means it could be one of the system’s big launch titles.
Of course, nothing is official yet. Nintendo hasn’t said a word about Star Fox, and rumors like this pop up all the time. But after nearly a decade with no news, even a whisper of the franchise’s return is enough to get people talking. If it’s true, Star Fox could finally be back in the spotlight, just in time for a new generation of players.
