Netflix’s Former Gaming Boss Mike Verdu Has Officially Left the Company Following Earler AI Role

Netflix followers will probably know who Mike Verdu is, as the man has left a significant mark on the company and has pushed it forward in a way that no one thought was possible at the time. Did anyone think that a streaming service would enter the world of gaming?
Well, it did, and Mike Verdu is the “guilty party” there, as he founded and headed Netflix’s gaming department back in 2021. But, after three years, he was shifted to another role late last year. Now, we can confirm that Verdu had completely left the company.
Based on everything that happened last year and the problems Netflix has experienced with its gaming division, this piece of news shouldn’t really come as a surprise. Verdu’s departure has been rumored last year, when he was transferred to the role of VP of Generative AI for games at Netflix.
And while Netflix (re)assured everyone that there were no issues and that the shift was not a consequence of their gaming division being in trouble, but rather a pre-planned move, it turned out that the state of things was very, very different.
Namely, in the meantime, Netflix has canceled several announced projects and its gaming division is barely alive at the moment. All of this, combined with the in-company shifts that took place in the previous weeks and months, probably pushed Verdu to leave the company.
And while Verdu probably won’t have issues finding a job, it remains to be seen how Netflix is going to cope with this loss and what these events will mean for the future of Netflix gaming.
