‘Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Director Reveals 80 Hours of Playtime for Completionists, Teases New Game+

Assassin’s Creed Shadows brings a fresh take on the series, set in Japan, with a world that feels alive and full of detail. According to the game’s Creative Director, Jonathan Dumont, this setting was a dream for the team.
Japan, with its rich history and culture, was the perfect fit for the project, especially now with the technology to bring this vision to life. The team wanted a place where nature and movement were integral parts of the world, and they found the right story to match.
The game is inspired by a mix of classic films, including 13 Assassins, Zatoichi, and Kurosawa’s works, but with the signature Assassin’s Creed twist.
The developers are aware of online debates and try to listen to feedback, but they’re focused on making the best game they can. The main story will last around 30-40 hours, but players can easily spend over 80 hours exploring side content.
For those who want even more, the team is considering features like New Game+ and other modes based on what players want. The open world is vast, dynamic, and full of life, with changes like seasons and weather to make it feel real.
I had the opportunity to interview Assassin’s Creed Shadows Creative Director Jonathan Dumont. Here are some of the key points:

New gameplay additions include a stealth system based on light and shadow, the ability to go prone, and a grappling hook. There’s also a new spy network mechanic, a customisable hideout, and a dynamic world that changes throughout the day and night.
In combat, the new cutting system allows players to slash through objects in a realistic way, which can affect how the game plays. The game will run at 60fps in performance mode and 30fps in quality mode on next-gen consoles, including a special PS5 Pro Enhanced version.
The game will also have a fresh Animus story that ties it into future Assassin’s Creed projects. The team is excited to show the hard work they’ve put into this game, especially for Japanese fans.
