Hazelight Studios, the team behind It Takes Two, made a huge impact with their co-op adventure. Now, their former game director, Josef Fares, is leading a new project called Split Fiction at a different studio, and it looks like things are on a much bigger scale.

Fares, now with Moon Studios, revealed that Split Fiction has nearly double the budget of It Takes Two. That’s a major leap, considering It Takes Two already had a solid budget for a co-op game. While exact numbers weren’t given, it’s clear that the new game is aiming for something much bigger.

Moon Studios, best known for Ori and the Blind Forest and its sequel, has been working on No Rest for the Wicked, an upcoming action RPG. Despite that, they’ve managed to put a lot of resources into Split Fiction at the same time. That means they’re handling two big projects at once, which isn’t easy.

Fares is known for pushing co-op gaming forward. With A Way Out and It Takes Two, he proved that two-player experiences can be just as exciting as big-budget single-player games. Split Fiction will continue that focus on multiplayer, but details are still scarce. What we do know is that it’s shaping up to be the biggest project he’s ever worked on.

With a budget nearly twice that of It Takes Two, expectations are high. The game could be a major step forward for co-op gaming, but until we see more, all we can do is wait and hope it delivers.
