Dave Bautista is Pushing Netflix to Finally Make a ‘Gears of War’ Movie

Dave Bautista is pushing hard for a Gears of War movie, and he’s made it clear that he’s not going to let Netflix forget about it. Known for his roles in Dune, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Blade Runner 2049, Bautista is also a huge fan of the game and has been vocal about his desire to play the lead role in a Gears of War film.
Netflix acquired the rights to the game in 2022, and Bautista wants them to move on it. He even called on fans to start a petition, saying, ‘Come on, Netflix. Come on already.’ Bautista has been actively pushing for the project behind the scenes, repeatedly urging the streaming giant to get things moving.
John Spaihts, who co-wrote the Dune films, is working on the script for Gears of War. He’s said the game has everything needed for a great film, from its strong characters to its intense action and themes about friendship and war.
Cliff Bleszinski, the game’s creator, has also shown support for Bautista playing the lead, tweeting, ‘Bautista as Marcus please.’
With the script in progress, the ball is now in Netflix’s court. Fans are waiting to see if they’ll bring Bautista’s vision for Marcus Fenix to life. Before that happens, we’ll see Bautista in In the Lost Lands, which premieres March 7, 2025.
