The God of War franchise is about to hit its 20th anniversary, and there’s growing excitement that we could see a remaster of the original games. Industry insider Jeff Grubb hinted at this possibility, suggesting that a big announcement could come in March, just in time for the milestone.

This comes after an artist working on something for the anniversary event mentioned remaster rumors, and Grubb seemed to confirm that an official reveal is close.

The idea of a God of War remaster has been circulating for a while. Henderson, another insider, even talked about the possibility of the next game taking place in Egypt, but later corrected that statement.

He now believes the next game could take us back to Greece, diving into Kratos’ earlier years and his relationship with Zeus. This has led to speculation that the new game could be a prequel or soft reboot, potentially tied to the remastered collection.

Lunatic Ignus, a Chinese insider, also fueled these rumors by claiming that Nixxes Software is working on a remastered collection of the original Greek saga games.

I think that those god of war remaster rumors just jumped the gun a little bit. That stuff will happen closer to this.

This would include titles like God of War, God of War II, God of War III, Chains of Olympus, Ghost of Sparta, and Ascension. According to Ignus, this collection could drop in March 2025 to coincide with the anniversary celebrations.

Since the series rebooted in 2018 with a new Norse mythology setting, fans have been eagerly waiting to see the older games get a fresh look. If these rumors are true, Sony could be bringing the Greek saga to modern consoles, since those games are currently limited to PS3 and PSP.
