Sonic is back on the track, but this time, the race isn’t just across different locations—it’s across dimensions. Sonic Racing Crossworlds is bringing high-speed action to PS5 and PS4, and it looks like things are about to get chaotic in the best way possible.
The game is being developed by SEGA and Sora Ltd., promising a fresh twist on the racing genre. Instead of just picking a track and going lap after lap, racers will jump between different dimensions mid-race. That means shifting environments, sudden changes in terrain, and unexpected challenges. One second, you’re speeding through a futuristic city, and the next, you’re dodging lava in a volcanic wasteland.
The roster includes Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, and plenty of other familiar faces, each with their own unique abilities. There’s also a brand-new mechanic called ‘Crossworld Shifts,’ which lets racers switch between alternate versions of themselves. A version of Sonic from another reality might have a different vehicle, stats, or even special moves.
Multiplayer is a big focus, with both online and local modes. There’s a standard Grand Prix mode, elimination races, and even a survival-style challenge where the track itself becomes a threat. For those who prefer solo play, the game includes a full story mode with cutscenes and boss battles.
The visuals are fast and flashy, as expected from a Sonic game. The shifting dimensions add a layer of unpredictability, making it feel like no two races are ever the same. The soundtrack, featuring remixes of classic Sonic tunes, adds to the high-energy experience.
SEGA hasn’t announced an exact release date yet, but Sonic Racing Crossworlds is expected to launch sometime in 2025. Given how ambitious the concept sounds, it’s shaping up to be a game worth keeping an eye on. If you’ve ever wanted to see Sonic race through time and space, this might be your chance.
