In a recent interview, he admitted that games like Until Dawn and Silent Hill inspired him while making The Gorge. He even said, ‘Gaming has sort of set the bar for gunplay action,’ which helped shape the movie’s tone.

In the story, two skilled snipers, played by Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, are stationed in separate watchtowers near a vast gorge. As night falls, they uncover dark secrets hidden below. The intense action and suspense may remind viewers of games like Overwatch and The Last of Us, but it isn’t all just action. Derrickson wanted to add something else: love.

At its core, The Gorge is a love story wrapped in a mix of horror and sci-fi elements. Derrickson wanted to avoid turning it into a chaotic, non-stop action film. Instead, he aimed for a balance, ensuring the romance stayed alive amid all the tension. For him, it was about offering both action and heart.
