Alan Wake 2 Finally Turns a Profit After Over a Year

Alan Wake 2 has now sold over 2 million copies and is officially making money. The game launched digitally in October 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. With a budget of around €70 million (£58 million), it ranks as one of Finland’s most expensive entertainment projects.
By the end of 2024, the game had covered its production and marketing costs, finally bringing in profit. A big reason for this was the release of two expansions: Night Springs in June and The Lake House in October. The launch of a physical edition, a PS5 Pro patch, and ongoing updates also helped keep sales going.
Earlier in the year, Remedy mentioned that by September, Alan Wake 2 had already earned back most of its costs. However, it wasn’t until later that it actually turned a profit.
Remedy is now focused on several new projects. FBC: Firebreak, a three-player co-op shooter set in the Control universe, is planned for release this year. The studio is also working with Rockstar Games on remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2, though release dates haven’t been announced. Meanwhile, Control 2 is expected to enter full production at the end of this month.
The Lake House expansion in Alan Wake 2 may even hint at what’s to come in Control 2, as both games exist in the same connected universe.
Remedy’s CEO, Tero Virtala, said that Alan Wake 2’s sales have followed the studio’s expectations. He also emphasized how ongoing development and support help bring in new players and keep sales strong.
Reaching profitability wasn’t fast or easy, but it shows the effort and investment needed to create a high-budget game. Remedy’s decision to keep adding content and updates has played a key role in making Alan Wake 2 a success.
Looking ahead, the studio’s plan to expand its game universes and deliver engaging stories is keeping players excited for what’s next.
