A group of experienced developers from Epic, BioWare, EA, Codemasters, and Disney have come together to form Noodle Cat Games. Their first project, Cloudheim, is a cooperative action role-playing game (RPG) that emphasizes combo-based combat and features fully destructible environments.

In Cloudheim, players can team up to battle enemies using a unique combat system inspired by fighting games. This system allows for juggling foes in the air, collaborating with teammates to extend combos, and utilizing the environment to gain an advantage. The game’s physics-based mechanics enable players to knock enemies into each other or bring down parts of the surroundings onto adversaries.

David Hunt, the CEO and founder of Noodle Cat Games, previously worked as the lead systems designer on Fortnite and contributed to Star Wars: The Old Republic at BioWare. He explained that the core idea for Cloudheim’s gameplay emerged from the question: ‘What if we take the juggling from fighting games and make it the combat foundation in a co-op action RPG?’

Beyond its combat, Cloudheim offers a variety of locations and dungeons for players to explore. The game also includes crafting systems, allowing players to create and customize items to aid in their adventures. The visual design showcases diverse environments, from lush forests to ancient ruins suspended in the sky, providing a rich backdrop for the action.

The debut trailer for Cloudheim highlights several standout features, such as a massive turtle-like creature, powerful female warriors, and dynamic combat sequences where players can use enemies as weapons against each other. The emphasis on environmental destruction adds a strategic layer to battles, encouraging players to think creatively about how to approach different combat scenarios.

Noodle Cat Games aims to combine the engaging combat mechanics of fighting games with the collaborative elements of co-op RPGs. By integrating destructible environments and physics-based interactions, Cloudheim seeks to offer a fresh and immersive experience for players looking for cooperative gameplay.

Cloudheim is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2025 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. As the launch date approaches, more details about the game’s features and mechanics are expected to be revealed, building anticipation among the gaming community.
