BMW i5 and BMW i5 Touring Boost Range and Add Enhanced Features for Spring 2025
This spring, BMW enthusiasts have something to look forward to as the brand announces significant updates across its range of models, scheduled for release in March 2025.
Notably, the BMW i5 and its Touring variant are set to receive substantial improvements that boost energy efficiency and driving range.
In a move to optimize electric driving, BMW has incorporated silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics of the BMW i5, alongside other technical advancements.
These include ultra-low-resistance tires mounted on aerodynamically designed alloy wheels and updated wheel bearings, which collectively contribute to a notable increase in range—up to 47 kilometers extra depending on the model and setup.
The interior of the BMW 5 Series will also see upgrades, with the addition of ambient lighting that features a crystalline BMW Interaction Bar, lumbar support for the front seats, and a premium Harman Kardon HiFi loudspeaker system now standard across the series.
Additionally, high-gloss Black finishes on the door switchgear and new BMW Individual Merino Leather options in Black/Dark Violet offer fresh customization possibilities for discerning buyers.
BMW is also raising the bar for its plug-in hybrid models like the BMW X1, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 7 Series, and BMW XM.
These vehicles will soon benefit from a faster AC charging capability, jumping from 7.4 kW to 11 kW, significantly reducing the time needed to recharge.
Another key feature is the rollout of BMW Digital Key Plus, set to become standard in the new BMW iX.
This enhanced key allows vehicle access via a smartphone and includes a physical key, a Setup Card, and a Service Card for easy activation and sharing.
The system supports up to 18 digital keys, with customizable permissions, which can restrict things like the vehicle’s acceleration and top speed—a handy feature for new drivers.
Moreover, BMW’s latest vehicles equipped with the BMW Operating System 9 now include the YouTube video app, enhancing in-car entertainment for users subscribed to BMW Digital Premium.
These vehicles also support the activation of a Personal eSIM, which enhances connectivity for calls and creates a WiFi hotspot inside the vehicle.
With these updates, BMW continues to push the boundaries of automotive technology, combining performance enhancements with increased convenience and safety features, making it an exciting time for potential buyers and brand aficionados.
