OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Gov, a version of its chatbot made for government use. This tool is designed to let U.S. government agencies access GPT-4 and other advanced models securely.

With ChatGPT Gov, agencies can deploy the tool on Microsoft Azure cloud, which helps them manage security and privacy needs. It’s meant to handle sensitive and non-public information.

The government version includes most of the features from ChatGPT Enterprise. These include saving and sharing conversations, building custom GPTs, and an admin console for IT management. OpenAI is also working with the UK government on a similar AI chatbot for their website.

OpenAI aims to make its products available to U.S. agencies to ensure AI serves the public good, working with democratic values while supporting policymakers in providing better services to Americans.

Since 2024, more than 90,000 users in over 3,500 U.S. government agencies have used ChatGPT, with over 18 million messages sent. Agencies like the Air Force Research Laboratory, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and Minnesota’s Enterprise Translations Office are already using the tool.
