Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Video Keeps Breaking Records, Surpassing the PS5
The latest reveal for the Nintendo Switch 2 has taken the internet by storm. As per the numbers provided by VGC, concluding with January 18, 2025, in just under 48 hours, the video racked up more than 17 million views on Nintendo of America’s YouTube channel.
To put this into perspective, the PlayStation 5 reveal in 2020 gathered 13.3 million views in a similar timeframe. The original Nintendo Switch teaser reached 19.5 million views before it was taken down.
What’s even more impressive is that the PS5’s reveal trailer has accumulated 44 million views in total since its release nearly five years ago. In comparison, the Switch 2 reveal is already on track to surpass this milestone, with nearly 1 million likes in less than two days. It quickly became the number one trending video on YouTube over the weekend.
Over on X (formerly Twitter), the numbers are even more eye-popping. The Nintendo of America account’s Switch 2 video has been seen over 40 million times, while the Japanese account has amassed more than 51 million views. This shows how much excitement is building for the new console worldwide.
Bloomberg recently reported, citing analyst Robin Zhu, that Nintendo is gearing up to sell 20 million units of the Switch 2 when it hits the market. The official announcement video confirmed that the console will launch this year, with a full reveal set for April 2.
The Switch 2 will stick to a similar design as its predecessor, featuring detachable, magnetic controllers and a large screen. The reveal also hinted at a new Mario Kart game, which has fans buzzing with anticipation.
Dr Serkan Toto, CEO of the Japanese game industry consultancy Kantan Games, mentioned to VGC that investors are pleased Nintendo is sticking to a safe, familiar design for the new console, following earlier leaks that hinted at this direction.
