Nokia signs patent license agreement with Samsung
Nokia has announced a new multi-year patent license agreement with Samsung, focused on using Nokia’s video technologies in Samsung televisions. According to the Finnish company, Samsung will pay royalties as part of this deal.
This agreement is entirely separate from the companies’ existing 5G patent license agreement. Both parties have agreed to keep the details of the arrangement confidential.
Arvin Patel, Chief Licensing Officer for New Segments at Nokia, expressed satisfaction with the deal, stating it highlights Nokia’s expertise in video and multimedia technologies. Patel added that the agreement reflects Nokia’s commitment to innovation through years of research and development in multimedia.
Nokia has been at the forefront of video and multimedia technology for over 25 years. The company has contributed nearly 5,000 inventions related to multimedia and continues to invest heavily in this field.
Since 2000, Nokia has allocated around €150 billion to research and development, including more than €4 billion in 2023 alone. These investments have supported advancements in cellular and multimedia technologies, further solidifying Nokia’s leadership in the industry.
