Delta Airlines upgrading to 4K seatback screens, adding cloud-based seatback experience, YouTube Premium, new personalized features and more
Delta Airlines made waves at CES 2025 with announcements that promise to transform the flying experience through cutting-edge technology and personalized entertainment.
The airline revealed plans to introduce 4K HDR QLED seatback screens starting in 2026. These displays will deliver a cinematic viewing experience with vibrant colors and sharp resolution. Delta is also rolling out Bluetooth connectivity across all cabins, allowing passengers to pair their wireless headphones seamlessly.
In an exciting partnership with YouTube, Delta will offer SkyMiles members ad-free YouTube Premium and YouTube Music on flights. This feature, set to launch in 2025, reflects Delta’s vision to make in-flight entertainment as enjoyable as at home.
The airline also announced plans to enhance its Wi-Fi system to support these services, ensuring smooth streaming for passengers. A new recommendation engine will personalize content choices, while a “Do Not Disturb” mode on the screens will let travelers signal their preferences to the cabin crew.
Delta also introduced Delta Concierge, an AI-powered assistant integrated into the Fly Delta app. This feature aims to anticipate traveler needs, offering services like passport and visa reminders, directions to airport facilities, and real-time updates. Over time, it will personalize the in-flight experience with tailored greetings and content suggestions.
The airline’s onboard technology is also getting a major upgrade. Starting next year, Delta will transition to a cloud-based entertainment system. This innovation includes a groundbreaking 96-terabyte storage system to handle more content, multilingual seatback announcements, and an “Arrival Mode” that integrates essential travel information into the entertainment interface.
Delta’s partnership with Thales Avionics is making this possible, and the new features are part of Delta’s broader initiative to create a connected and intuitive journey for its passengers. Features like guided wellness programs and customizable food and beverage options are in the works, offering even more ways to personalize the travel experience.
Additionally, Delta announced it will build more fuel-efficient airplanes in collaboration with Airbus and unveiled a partnership with Uber, allowing SkyMiles members to earn points through ride-sharing services.
With these innovations, Delta is not just enhancing the in-flight experience—it’s setting a new standard for modern travel.
