Apple’s HomePod mini is about to get a long-awaited upgrade. First launched in November 2020 with the iPhone 12 series, a new version of the mini speaker is finally expected to arrive later this year.

Reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggest that Apple plans to release the new HomePod mini toward the end of 2025. The new model is expected to feature Apple’s own combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip with Wi-Fi 6E support, a notable improvement over the current HomePod mini’s Wi-Fi 4.

This upgrade should offer faster and more reliable connectivity, which would improve things like Siri performance and music streaming.

While we don’t know all the details, other potential upgrades include a newer S chip, better sound quality, and perhaps new color options.

The speaker could also get an updated Ultra Wideband chip, offering lower-latency when transferring music between devices. The current model runs on the S5 chip, which debuted with the Apple Watch Series 5 in 2019.

Alongside this, Apple is also expected to launch a completely new smart home hub this year. This device will likely have a 6-7 inch display, which can be mounted on a wall or attached to a base with a speaker. However, this hub is said to support Apple Intelligence, while the next HomePod mini won’t have this feature.

It’s a big year ahead for Apple’s smart home lineup, and we’re curious to see how these upgrades play out.
